Story
I first learnt about cancer when I was a child after my wonderful Grandpa Douglas was diagnosed with bowel cancer. Back then treatment options were limited and his outlook was short and miserable. Through the years cancer has reared its ugly head in my life again and again.
Thanks to charities like cancer research there are now so many more options in terms of early diagnosis, treatment and end of life care. When my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year his oncologist explained that the fact it isn’t cureable isn’t the short term death sentence we all assumed it would be. We are hopeful he still has many fit and healthy years ahead of him thanks to advances in medical treatment.
Unfortunately though there have been too many friends and family I know who have either lost their lives to cancer or had their lives turned upside down by it due to losing a loved one. So I am fundraising both in memory of those lost and in hope and gratitude for the advances made in treating this horrible disease.
In memory of Douglas, Doreen, Ken, Matt, and Lynne.
