Story
I am raising funds for a mentor programme I will be involved in.
Money raised will contribute to all the training needed, peer mentoring and all workshops and school supervision costs for a child I will be mentoring.
The aim is to help our teen girls see what is possible, help change their limiting belief mindsets and empower them to believe they can make anything happen.
I will be helping a teen to accept themself for who they are and support them in gaining the confidence needed to deal with a range of everyday issues they face including Body Acceptance, Identity, Self belief, Relationships, Aspirations. We want Teens to have the confidence to speak their truth with confidence.
I have my own personal reasons for doing this. Self harming and young adult suicide has become a concern and almost seen as the "norm" . I have found the figures below frightening but I see it around me regularly and just want to help.
1 in 4 girls will self harm before they leave secondary school, rates have doubled in the past 6 years, a 68% rise in hospital admissions for self harm girls under the age of 17 in the past decade.
The number of women and girls age 10 upwards recorded as having taken their own lives has increased by 94% since 2012.
Smartphone technology use is fuelling a record demand for sleeping pills for under 16's.
Prescriptions in the last 4 years has increased by 43% with children as young as 10 being the main users.
24% of girls reported depressive symptoms by age 14.
44% of girls think being good looking is the most important attribute
32% of teen girls have stopped or limited their eating due to body image concerns.
32% of girls are missing from School at least once a term due to bullying & mental illness
Reports of Rape & violent sexual assaults, grooming against children are up nearly 75% compared to 2014.
I think the figures speak for themselves, these statistics are truly shocking, scary and extremely sad to say the least.
Please help me to help give a young girl the confidence needed to use her voice, to be seen and be heard and be comfortable in their own skin.....Thank you xx
