Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been lucky enough to be chosen to be one of the models for Maggie's On The Runway 2018 under Concorde at Manchester Airport Viewing Park on 16th June 2018.
My story:
In April 2017, after suddenly turning yellow, my GP referred me onto the 2 week wait pathway for cancer. Several bloods tests and scans later i was admitted to Stepping Hill Hospital with a blockage in my pancreas. I was then transferred to Manchester Royal for a Whipples procedure. At this stage no one knew what it was but pancreatic cancer appeared on all the leaflets i was given. The whipples procedure was a massive operation that lasted 11 and a half hours. They removed a third of my pancreas, some stomach, intestines, gall bladder, bile ducts and lymph nodes. Unfortunately the tumour was cancerous so in June I started on a 6 month cycle of intravenous and tablet form chemo.
In November i finished chemo and had a CT scan. Unfortunately shadows were found on my liver so further investigations were needed. Devastated is an understatement!
After an MRI scan it was confirmed that the shadows were in fact cysts! I Was discharged from Christies that day back into the care of Manchester Royal.
Going through all of this makes you re- evaluate your life and what is important. I have written a bucket list and one of the main things is to not say no to new experiences! I cant wait to take part in this event as i need to learn to walk without tripping #watchmefall!
Maggie's offers emotional, practical and social support for those living with cancer and their friends and family. The centre relies on fundraising and donations to keep going, needing around £2000 a day. Maggie's was my haven when I was recovering from surgery and starting chemo offering me somewhere to rest, counselling, endless brews and beautiful cake!!
