Story
Thank you so much to all my supporters who have given so generously. You will be pleased to know that due to your kind contribution I was able to claim an extra £500 for the charity through my employer's donation matching scheme!
Woo hoo! Thanks everyone ☺️ x
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. All expenses incurred have been paid for by myself, so any donations you make will go straight to the charity.
"Why do it the easy way, when there's a hard way"
Ever since I started cycling, I've wanted to the do the iconic Land's end to John O'Groats cycle ride. I was thinking I'd try and challenge myself and do it over 9 or 10 days. 100 miles a day for 9 days sounds like my kind of fun. But then I discovered audaxing and came across the LEJOG 1400km Audax. Joy O Joy - this is a very (VERY) basic-supported ride and instead of 10 days, I have to do it in 5! Well, in 116 hours and 40 minutes, whatever that it. We have to average 12kph including time off the bike for inconveniences like eating and sleeping and the organisers provide 4 overnight controls where we might get a bed roll on a sports hall floor to sleep on (bloody luxury, I know). Despite this generous provision, I still expect this to be quite a challenge (possibly not even Type 2 fun), but what the heck - YOLO.
1 month after surviving LEJOG I am planning to do LEL - an even more difficult ride of 1500km and more hills, cycling from London up to Edinburgh and then back down again. Similar basic support is provided but there are no mechanics and no one to rescue you if you get into trouble. I think we get an extra 4 hours for this one.
Anyway, if you got to the end of this, well done and thanks for listening to my waffle.
I would love to raise a lot of money for this amazing charity who give their time and resources to help vulnerable kids and young people achieve success in their lives. Kids who have been failed by the education system, society or their families/communities. Endeavour aim to give these kids support and resources so that they can get an education or skills and to believe in themselves. They also do many community activities so that the young people can give back to the community too.
Thanks so much and happy cycling
Helen xx
