Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page
A few months ago we somehow made the decision that, as a group of crazy cyclists we knew were going to raise money for Kicking Off by completing an epic 9 day cycle (averaging 100 hilly miles a day) from Lands End to John O' Groats, we should, as trustees of this amazing charity, show our commitment and join them. That may sound a fairly mad idea already, but when you add into the equation we weren't cyclists, hadn't cycled for years and didn't even own a bike (apart from Carole having a Mary Poppins type sit up and beg bike!) If you also add in the fact that we are all ladies in our 50's, have full time super busy businesses to run, and the 9 day option is the one only the really experienced cyclists go for you can see why there were some raised eyebrows in our various cycle shops when we went in to buy bikes and told them what we were planning!
This is seriously the biggest physical challenge any of us has undertaken and we've done a few in our time! Our training has started, but with 100 days now to go to the start we know we have a huge uphill challenge ahead to be ready for the task. Basically our summer weekends are all being sacrificed to ensure we manage to get to where we need to be...However it will all be worth it because we are hoping to raise lots of money to go towards some of Kicking Off’s long term development projects which include the renovation of an almost derelict medical centre in Ghana which serves thousands of local villagers and building a much needed school in an area where there is currently no educational opportunities. Having visited these villages and the medical centre ourselves, we know the impact these projects will have on the local community and with your help we can make massive steps towards implementing these kinds of projects.
Thank you all in advance for your generosity!!
