Story
Maya is our little miracle and the odds were that she wouldn't be with us today. In celebration of her first birthday we would love to raise as much money as possible for the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Unit who looked after her so brilliantly when she was born.
Maya's hard journey into this world started even before she was born, when my waters broke at 21 weeks. This rare condition is called PPROM (pre term premature rupture of membranes) and the chances of Maya surviving weren't good. After lots more complications with the pregnancy and weeks on strict bedrest, Maya was born by c-section 10 weeks early on the 17th March 2012.
She looked absolutely perfect, just so so tiny. She weighed 3lb 8oz and was very poorly. Her lungs were underdeveloped due to me losing my waters and her being so early. She couldn't breath on her own and had to be ventilated. It was 5 days before I could even hold her. She was so tiny but she was so strong and faught. She was in intensive care for 11 days then gradually worked her way through the high dependancy unit and then special care and we were finally allowed to bring her home 6 weeks after she was born. We owe everything to the consultants, specialists & nurses who looked after her, they are amazing people and we can't thank them enough.
The Oliver Fisher unit is a charity run organisation and without donations they wouldn't be able to have the equipment or facilities needed to look after all the premature and sick babies like Maya so please please give generously to such an amazing cause.
