Story
Seren joined our family in June 2010. Moments after she was born I saw she had Down's syndrome. Although I had time to "prepare" myself for this diagnosis (I had a "high risk" triple test during pregnancy but we refused the amnio), the books, websites and factual documentation I found didn't prepare me adequately for what was in store... which turned out to be a whole lot BETTER than anything we could have dreamed of.
Seren is a feisty, opinionated and loud 2 year old. She is totally non-verbal so through the Early Development Groups that DSO run, we are learning Makaton, a form of sign language. Seren is picking it up really well!
Through DSO we have met lots of families in Oxfordshire and now have some friends who will share our journey with us - having a child with Down's syndrome is a pretty unique gift, and the friends we are meeting will be friends for life. DSO organise social events and activities which bring the children together. The groups and families offer advice and support. Our children will never feel alone.
Without Down's syndrome Oxford, Seren's life (and our lives) would be a lot more lonely.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me raise my target and donate whatever you can - a £1 donation would show that you care and the DSO families in Oxfordshire would be so grateful.
