Fundraising for Magpas Air Ambulance
Thanks for taking the time to visit Helen and Lilly's JustGiving page for Magpas Air Ambulance.
Lilly and Helen are undertaking an awesome and difficult personal challenge. Lilly aims to walk a marathon over 26 days one mile at a time in May 2021. Helen will match that distance on her bike over two or three days, possibly on one day if she can!
Lilly’s fundraising bug started after watching Captain Sir Tom’s efforts and we decided to raise money for the social club in Ramsey she attended before lockdown. She raised over £1100. A few months later, Lilly wanted to do some more fundraising and decided on another mile a day for 26 days and Helen said 'I’ll do a marathon cycle ride!'. Lilly decided on Magpas Air Ambulance as she was watching one of her favourite tv programmes, Helicopter ER, and she loves looking out for the Magpas Air Ambulance helicopter when we pass Wyton airfield or out on her walks.
Lilly acquired brain damage (cerebral palsy) in February 1990, when she was 11 months, when she suffered an infection of the heart muscle which produced a heart rate between 20 and over 200 beats a minute. She was transferred from Hinchingbrooke hospital to Great Ormond Street hospital for sick children. After 10 days, they transferred her back to Hinchingbrooke Hospital for palliative care, saying if she survived 1990, she’d be a cabbage for the rest of her life. She’s done horse riding with a regular stables, sailing with Sailability in Peterborough and attended a mainstream primary school for 6 years.
