Hello my name is Helen Harrison and I am the Ladies Captain at Cumberwell Park Golf Club near Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire

As part of my role I have the privilege of choosing a charity to raise money for on behalf of the ladies section and have chosen "Fight for Sight" who undertake ground-breaking research into sight loss.

Today 2.5 million people in the UK are living with sight loss and we need look no further than our own friends to be able to empathise with people we know who are living with impaired sight resulting from conditions such as age related macular degeneration and glaucoma.

The cause is close to my heart as my mother was registered blind, battling with worsening dry age macular degeneration for which there is no treatment or cure. It robbed her of the pleasures a widowed lady in her later years might seek to enjoy not to mention making independent living extremely difficult.  

One in five people will have a serious sight condition in their life time. Sight loss doesn’t care who you are or where you are from; anyone can be affected. The fight against sight loss is on the cusp of many breakthroughs, but we urgently need the funding to get there. Your donation to help me hit my target will help fund that research, and create a world everyone can see.
