Story
A run in memory of Alan Donaldson (1936 - 2012) who passed away suddenly on 28 February 2012 from a heart attack.
It would be easy to not do this run and to continue with the G&T's and the odd fag! But living where I do and appreciating what an amazing man he was would not really be a fitting tribute. I also heard running can help the grieving process.
Dad was unusual in that after the untimely death of mummy in 1974 he bought me up with my sister and brother and managed to hold down an responsible job, as a District Judge.
He hid his sadness and loss through jokes and being clever and keeping his mind active, buying and reading trillions of books, listening to beautiful music and having more than a passing interest in trains and history.
He allowed me to follow my own path and supported me in any decisions I made, never forcing me to reconsider personal choices, although I'm sure he often knew the outcome before I did, good and bad.
Dad was also unusual in that he keep in touch with many of his friends from his early days and throughout his life as he gathered more friends along the way, he always enjoyed writing long newsy letters and keeping them informed.
We have already celebrated his life, an occassion he would have enjoyed with all his many, many friends and family and I think, proud that we pulled off a brilliant funeral!
I have many good memories and enjoyed a holiday last year with him and his granddaughter, Corina.
Dad lived a full, active and balanced life and he was true to himself.
I will miss him.
