Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've been at JustGiving for nine months now and still haven't done any fundraising of my own - lots of donating to other people's pages - but none myself.
Over the last few weeks i've been really upset by the reporting of the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Calais and so i want to fundraise for Doctors of the World who are providing medical care on the ground to help people there, but i couldn't think of anything appropriate to do as a fundraiser. So, taking inspiration from the comedian Jason Manford, who has been challenged by his family to give up ALL social media for the whole of August to raise money for a children's charity, i decided to invite my friends and family to nominate something for me to give up for August.
Suggestions have ranged from giving up social media (can't - have to be on it for work purposes) to chocolate (let's not set me up to fail from the start) to 'saying no' (the answer to that? Err, no.) But the suggestion that came up a few times was 'political comments on Facebook' (first suggested by my sister, thanks Emma) and 'animal related social media posts (first suggested by my sister-in-law, thanks Chloe). The one other suggestion that makes things a bit tougher in real life (rather than imaginary social media world) was a month without make up (suggested by my husband).
Thank you, dear family.
I accept the challenge on all three fronts and so hereby commit to giving up all political and animal-related social media posts, as well as forgoing any kind of make up FOR THE WHOLE OF AUGUST, which is likely to hit commuters on the Piccadilly Line and my colleagues at JustGiving the hardest.
Please sponsor me whatever you can to help ease my loss of social expression both on and offline and, on any occasion that i slip up, i promise to donate £50 - though i am sure slip ups will be rare as i am nothing, if not disciplined ;-)
