Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Our amazing cousin Gill has an amazing dog, Charlie. No ordinary boy, Charlie is a guide dog and he is at Gill's side day and night. Recently, we all met up at the Harry Potter Studios. I think Charlie got as much attention as the exhibits and it was wonderful to witness him at work, he even came with us in the flying car! But it's not all a jaunt and without him at her side, Gill would find it really hard to carry out her work as a probation officer.
There is no government funding for guide dogs so the charity relies entirely upon donations and with the estimated lifetime cost of £48,000 per dog, not everybody who could benefit from the support and companionship of a guide dog gets the chance to work with one.
It's a long way to cycle but the whole family and friends are joining in. Gill and her daughter Beth have been out on their tandem this weekend with Jamie, Gill's son on his bike and between them, they've clocked up 80miles in 2 days which is a pretty mean feat. There's a photo of them all on this page, including Charlie and Dusty, Gill's last guide dog who is enjoying life in retirement and has taken on the role of family pet very well! Adam Whitaker and his family have been joining in too with Adam cycling to and from work each day and Hayley calling into the gym to clock up the miles.
With a total distance of 2,325 miles, we have a good way to go yet and your donations will fuel our passion to get this distance covered and if we do really well, we may even muster up the energy to cycle back again!
