Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Helen and Kathryn will be spending a cold night out at Salisbury Cathedral in February to help raise awareness and funds for local charity, Alabaré.
Homelessness is not a new issue in the UK, but it is a worsening one, it is a situation that anyone could find themselves in through no fault of their own.
So, rather than just being another item on the political agenda to discuss on your newsfeed, we’re going to see what the British weather can throw at us this February and brave a night in the Cloisters. Of course a single night is in no way comparable to those who find this to be their daily reality, but we hope this will help raise awareness. The money donated will be used locally and have real benefit within our community.
Alabaré
Alabaré is a charity operating in the South West, that supports vulnerable, homeless and marginalised people. Alabaré help them transform their lives, providing accommodation and helping them gain the skills, confidence and opportunities to live a fulfilled life.
The British Homeless
An estimated 320,000 people are homeless in the UK, according to the latest research by Shelter. This equates to one in every 201 Brits and was an increase of four per cent on the previous year’s number.
As of March 2019, 84,740 households are stuck in temporary accommodation, up more than 75 per cent since December 2010, where the use of B&Bs and hotels to put up hard up families hit its lowest point since 2004. Shockingly, Shelter estimate there will be 135,000 children living in temporary accommodation by Christmas 2019.
An estimated 726 people died while homeless in England and Wales in 2018. This was up 22% on the previous year – the highest year-to-year rise since this data began being collected. The average age was 45 years old for men and 43 years old for homeless women – compared to 76 years old and 81 years old for the wider population.
Let’s end homelessness.
