Story
WE DID IT! 21st-22nd August 2013, 17 hours, 17 minutes & 16 seconds.
My story:
I'm swimming the English channel as part of a relay team sometime between the 19th-26th August 2013 (we won't know the exact date and time until the day before, it depends on the tides). I'll end up swimming for around four hours in total over the course of the day in the English Channel - the busiest shipping lane in the world in 15°C (or colder) water, without a wet suit. Wet suits aren't allowed. Mild application of grease is allowed.
Why am I doing it? I'm not sure. It's on my bucket list, for one thing. I wanted to prove to the world that fat people don't just sit at home and eat cake all day. I'd like to, I shan't lie - but if I did that I'd need a crane to remove me from the living room. I wanted to do something I'd be proud of in the future, lose weight and raise money for charity. The channel relay will help me do all three.
I'm swimming for Diabetes UK. They're a fantastic charity, though sadly not as well known as they should be. Any donation is appreciated, no matter how small. If everyone I know donated £2 I'd hit my fundraising target. Two quid won't even buy you a coffee or a pint of lager. Well, maybe it would in the north but it certainly won't down south.
Thanks all!
