Story
I'm taking part in Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Worth Valley. Sadly, almost all of us will experience the loss of a loved one - your support can help more people get the end-of-life and bereavement care they need and deserve.
That's exactly what they did for us!
To sum up my dad's lung cancer journey, if it wasn't for bad luck, he wouldn't have had any!
But then Dad was admitted to Sue Ryder Manorlands initially for treatment. We knew he was very poorly but it was to keep him comfortable.
Then the nurses looked after my mum too, and me! She was exhausted after months of caring for my dad. Stress and anxiety were giving her heart problems. The nurses just did their thing so mum could be there with him and be his wife, not carer.
When it turned into end of life care they just continued their amazing service. Giving us all the support needed. Even the lady on reception gave us a hug when we had to leave without him.
The staff are wonderful. We are so grateful.
It's true, you can't change the outcome, but they definitely changed the end of his journey, into a well supported, dignified one.
Thankyou.
