Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Lizzie and I have decided to take part in the Manchester Midnight Walk on 16 June 2012 to raise money for St Ann's Hospice in memory of a very dear Uncle/Great Uncle, David Toft, who lost his battle with cancer on 30 December 2011. We want to give something back to the Hospice and the dedicated nursing staff who do a fantastic job in caring not only for the patients, but the families too.
The thought of visiting someone in a hospice for the first time can be a very daunting experience. I envisaged a place of great sadness, but from the moment you arrive at St Ann's you are greeted with a friendly face on the reception desk. What always amazed me was that whoever was on the reception desk always seemed to know my Uncle, he wasn't just a name in a book.
The nursing staff are exceptional, putting you at ease with any questions you have, and taking the time to get to know the families. Nothing ever seemed too much trouble. Like when Uncle missed the drinks round because he had fallen asleep and really fancied a lemonade, a nurse went and found him one. It may seem trivial but that small gesture meant a lot to me.The nurses cared for him with such dignity and compassion.
I was shocked to read that St Ann's need to raise £16,000 per day to keep going. We would like to raise as much as we can to show our appreciation for such a fantastic place.
