Story
On the 22nd of April 2018 I will be running the London marathon..(Yes...really...again...!!!)
I have been given the opportunity to run for a charity called neuroblastoma.org.uk. Cast your mind back 12 - 18 months ago, you might well remember seeing photos and reading about the horrific journey of a beautiful little girl called Jessica. Jessica came to the nursery school where I work, and this is how I got to know her and her family.
Jessica broke everybody's hearts.. she fought neuroblastoma for 14 months before she was finally beaten by it on November 20th 2016, aged just 4 years old. People across the world followed her journey, and became aware of neuroblastoma. Jessica was so unbelievably brave, as were her mummy and daddy. ❤
Without knowing Jessica I wouldn't have known about neuroblastoma, I wouldn't have known that on average 2 children every week in the UK alone are diagnosed... I wouldn't have known that more than 50% of these children are ultimately beaten by it. And I wouldn't have known that in terms of cancer funding, neuroblastoma.org.uk is given only a share along with other paediatric charities, of less than 3% of cancer funding.
That's on average 104 beautiful children every year who's lives are turned upside down, and ripped apart. Mums and dads worlds shattered. Families and friends who's life's will never be the same again...
Please please help me to raise money for this charity.. money that will be spent to fund research to beat this monster.
Every step, every ache, every twist, every blister (And probably in my case every fall too..) will be for Jessica.. every mile i run in training and on the day itself will be in Jessicas honour, and wow what an amazing privilege that is. She is the reason that I am running and she is the reason I want to raise as much money as possible for neuroblastoma.org.uk.. so that they can fund research and ultimately beat this horrific disease.
Jessica absolutely lives on in people's hearts, and she certainly lives on in the decisions people make.. Please help me to raise as much money as possible for neuroblastoma.org.uk in memory of beautiful Jessica Whelan. The bravest girl I ever knew Xx
