Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising money for Yeldall Manor - a drug and alcohol rehab centre in Berkshire. Many Yeldall supporters are standing with and supporting the Yeldall residents by giving up addictive things in their own lives during Lent - chocolate, cakes, Facebook, alcohol - in order to raise money for Yeldall Manor. I’ve decided to put a new twist on it and tackle the excess ‘stuff’ in my house!
Like many people, I have just way too much stuff in my house! While maybe not quite ‘addictive’ behaviour, letting go of items that I no longer need or use is something I find hard to do. There’s a certain perceived ‘security’ in being surrounded by ‘things’. But by living a simpler life and freeing up physical space in my house, I will hopefully free up space in my head as well, cut down on stress, and create a calmer life. Hopefully I’ll have less to clean and maintain, allowing me to focus time and money for things that are really important to me, rather than my life being focused on material possessions.
I’d like to spend more time with friends, creating memories and having adventures rather than accumulating ‘things’. Most important, I’d like to free up more of my money to support places like Yeldall. If I can bless Yeldall by getting rid of the clutter, raising money for residents to go through the programme there, then all the better. The money raised will go to the Bursary fund, providing places for those who would otherwise have no other funding to come to Yeldall.
I hope to get rid of one bag or box of items for each of the 40 days of Lent. Because of my travels, I won’t be home every day, so some days I will have to play catch-up, but hopefully by the end of it I will have reached the goal of 40! Some items will be donated to charity shops, some will be given away through local networks such as Freegle or local Facebook groups. Some items may be destined for the tip. If I sell anything on eBay or similar, I will make an extra donation to Yeldall.
Please make a donation of any amount you wish here on JustGiving, or you could commit to 50p or £1 for every bag/box I get rid of. Maybe you could also take up your own decluttering challenge!
