Story
On Sunday the 26th April the London Marathon was due to take place. The London Marathon is the worlds biggest one-day fundraising event and raised over 66 million for thousands of charities last year. However, with the London Marathon no longer taking place until October and many other fundraising events being cancelled (due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic); many charities are sadly losing out on these valuable donations which help them to support the most vulnerable and the most in need (Small charities like Action Duchenne especially).
Therefore, everyday from tomorrow (Thursday 23rd April) for 10 days (until 2nd May) I will be challenging myself to run 2.6 miles (taking part in the 2.6 Challenge) to run the total length of the London Marathon - 26 Miles. (2.8 on the 10th day to complete to full run of 26.2 Miles). I will be doing this to raise money for the charity Action Duchenne (the charity that I would still love to support if I ever do run the marathon in the future which is a personal goal of mine).
Action Duchenne is a charity that is very close to me and my best friend. As very few of you will know, Beth Carpenter 's brother Adam was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at the early age of 3. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a rare muscle wasting disease that effects just 100 boys in the UK every year. The disease affects every muscle in the body; where Adam was able to walk when he was younger, he was then permanently put in a wheelchair from the age of 9 and can sadly no longer walk. Every day Adam faces a new challenge at attempting to live his life as a normal 17 year old boy; but unfortunately his life expectancy is only late teens/early twenties. Although there won’t be a cure in his lifetime; I am raising money for Action Duchenne as an attempt for there to be a cure in the near future; which could bring so much hope in the future to other families that this disease effects.
Any donations would be appreciated, thank you so much x
