Story
Battery hens lead a horrendous life, crammed into cages, never seeing sun or grass until they are slaughtered at 18 months, being deemed non commercially viable. Their meat is valueless and they end up as pet food or cheap ready made frozen meals.
Thanks to the British Hen Welfare Trust some of these hens escape that fate and go on to be wonderful family pets, affectionate and inquisitive and a permanent source of joy... and eggs! (most do still lay 5-6 eggs a week for the first year)
I have recently had my second baby, so I knew that by signing up, I was taking on a significant challenge; finding time to train, running whilst sleep deprived, and not to mention a few pounds heavier! But as anyone who's ever rescued hens before will know, from watching them take their first "free" steps and dustbath to following you around and sitting on your lap, it will all be oh so worthwhile.
£3 saves a hen so hitting my target will save 100 lives.
Please help me in raising funds for the BHWT to continue their fantastic work and educate the public on the true cost of cheap eggs.
I Please note that the majority of battery hens eggs are not sold directly but used in ready-made meals, biscuits, cakes etc... if the label doesn t mention "free-range egg", it s very likely coming from a battery farm.
