About the charity

The Sheffield Autistic Society is a local charity for people with autism (including Asperger syndrome) and their families. We provide support and information, and we campaign for a better world for Sheffield people – children, young persons and adults – with autism and Asperger syndrome. The Society is inclusive and aims to support any individual, of any age, who may be on the Autistic Spectrum. We became a registered charity in 1993. If you are the parent or carer of someone with autism, or if you have been diagnosed with autism yourself, you are not alone. There are around 700,000 people with autism in the UK – that’s about 11 in every 1000. Sheffield has a population of about 577,000, so it is likely that there are at least 6,000 people with autism in Sheffield. We are a friendly group who are passionate about getting the best support and services in place to help and assist individuals of all ages who are affected by ASCs. We run monthly support groups for parents/carers and autistic adults. We also have a monthly social group, drop in sessions every fortnight, a summer playscheme and other activities throughout the year. Please see our website for full details of what's on and how you can get involved. Our website is also a fantatastic resource containing information on housing, education, benefits and much more at www.sheffieldautisticsociety.org.uk
