Heather was cared for during her short illness by the staff at the Cancer Centre and it was her wish that any funds would go to the Friends of the Cancer Centre charity.
Heather received nursing care that was exceptional, indeed in her husband Henry’s own words “the nursing care was wonderful.” This was truly fitting for Heather as she had dedicated her whole nursing career in the promotion of excellence in all aspects of person-centred care directed towards patients, families, students and colleagues. It is a great comfort to us that she experienced care that encapsulated her own values, that of compassion, competence, communication, courage and commitment.
Friends of the Cancer Centre has been dedicated to making a real and meaningful difference to cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland for 35 years. The charity is here to enhance the quality of patient care and support through its life-changing and life-saving work. It does this by funding additional nurses, supporting local research and providing practical support, such as financial grants, which help families through a difficult time. Friends of the Cancer Centre relies entirely on the generosity of the local community and all money donated stays in Northern Ireland, directly benefitting patients
and their families. Every donation makes a difference - £5 could provide 21 patients with a cup of tea when they attend for treatment; £25 could provide an hour of vital nursing care.
Thank you for supporting us to support them and sharing our journey to remember Heather.
