Story

For the past fortnight, we have been catching and vaccinating dogs  - we have protected more than 4,000 dogs against rabies!

The project is sustainable, evidence based and works to support local governments to adopt the methodology and keep the projects rolling.

Rabies kills 100 people every day, mostlmostly children who are bitten. Once symptoms develop, rabies is always fatal, leading to a horrible painful death.

However, with vaccination, it is totally preventable. Whilst vaccinating, I was nipped by a puppy. This is a category 2 rabies exposure. I am lucky enough to have the education to know this, and the money to access the treatment I needed. Millions of people do not know that rabies can be transmitted by the smallest bite, or what a rabid dog looks like. Mission Rabies runs education programmes to help change this and save lives.

Mission Rabies vaccinate dogs in mega vaccination drives, eliminating rabies from the local population. They collect data to help inform their decisions, and all work is based on this research and evidence. They are part of the #zeroby30 initiative - to eliminate dog-mediated rabies by 2030. Their work  really is making a huge difference, and this target is ambitious but totally achievable. All support is appreciated.

After two weeks of 5am starts, vaccinating over 4,000 dogs, I am going to climb Sri Paadaya (Adam's Peak). The 2,243 metre climb is done at night, it will be just me and a guide, Tarandu. My trip is entirely self-funded, any money donated on this page goes straight to Mission Rabies to support their awesome work. Please support me in raising funds and publicity for Mission Rabies by donating and / or sharing. Thank you.

Rabies needlessly kills 59,000 people each year. This needs to change. Following World Health Organisation guidelines we run mass canine vaccination drives and lifesaving education programmes to help people protect themselves against rabies. What we are doing works, but we can't do it alone.
