Change of date to March 2022!
I will be trekking through the Sahara Desert in March 2022 (third try due to Covid 🤞🏼), while raising money for an incredible charity Centrepoint, because no young person should be unsafe, without support or especially, without a home.
Centrepoint supports young homeless people by providing safe accommodation, physical & mental health support. They provide stability & safety to young people in need, guidance & resources; in turn giving them a foundation to work towards their future goals.
Several years ago, I met two young men on a truly bitter December night. They had moved to the streets of central London that day from their hometown, after 6 months of sofa surfing & occasional rough sleeping due to family difficulties. We walked around Trafalgar Square & spoke about the high level of homelessness in central London. They were shocked that even in such a big city, the nearby shelter was full for the night. I had to advise that what they saw was common & that the waiting list for a council flat could take years, not weeks as they had been sadly informed. After some time, they concluded they were safer to pool their remaining money & take the first coach back to their hometown, where at least they would have more chance at a warm place to sleep over the winter. Sadly, the better of two very bad situations.
A week or so later I passed a Centrepoint ‘room’ display in Victoria station & cried when I thought of those young men & how desperate they were when they saw the situation in London. Since then, I have sponsored a room with Centrepoint but have always wanted to do more. That's where you lovely people come in! £500 could give 27 young persons a safe bed for a night, something we so often take for granted. Even the smallest donation will make a huge impact to the life of a young person in need.
Thank you for reading & wish me luck!
