In Loving Memory of Alfie Viccars

London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·
On the 3rd of October 2021 I will be running the London Marathon in memory of Alfie Viccars. When I applied I couldn’t run 90 seconds without getting out of breath, but with dedication and training I am making really good progress, it is a challenge but its a challenge I'm prepared to take, please read the below to understand why this means so much to me .
It was a boiling hot day on the 21st June 2017 when 17 year old Alfie and a few friends decided to go to Hampton Court. Whilst they was there they decided to enter the water but due to the temperature of the water being cold it sadly caused Alfie to have cold water shock syndrome and Alfie went under the water surface.
After a frantic search for Alfie from his friends and passers-by, they managed to find Alfie. The Police, London Ambulance, London Air Ambulance and the RNLI was all on the scene to give him the rapid response he needed.
Alfie was air lifted to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel where he was placed in intensive care. His Mum never left his side, willing her baby to pull through. Sadly Alfie had been under the water to long and despite every possible best effort by the Doctors and staff, Alfie's Mum and family was delivered the devastating and traumatic news that he was not going to pull through. Alfie's Mum had to make the decision of when to reduce his life support. With her family and myself by her side we said our final goodbye to Alfie. It is with heartfelt thanks to the London Air Ambulance as their actions gave Alfie's family three more precious days with him.
Alfie was my son Billy's best friend, they met at school reception when they was just 5 years old. They was more then friends they was brothers. Alfie was part of our family and Billy was part of Alfie's, and my Husband John and myself looked upon him as a second son and we genuinely loved and cared for him. Like Alfie's family we will never get over losing Alfie. Alfie was a one of kind, he was a real lovely lad, cheeky, funny and a heart of gold, Alfie was a good friend to so many and for those privileged to have known Alfie cherish your memories of him.
Alfie was a Son, Brother, Uncle and good friend to so many.
Every second of every day , London's Air Ambulance is ready to deliver rapid response and cutting edge medical care to save lifes. An average mission costs £2,200, they can be airbourne within 4 minutes of activation and the average flight time to a patient is 7.5 minutes.
Why am I running the London Marathon? To say thank you to the London Air Ambulance, they are true heroes and I salute every single one of them for their amazing work, to thank them for all they done for our darling Alfie. Forever in our hearts Alfie will remain x x x
