I can't quite believe this but in a moment of utter madness, I applied to run the London Marathon that takes place on 02.10.22, to raise awareness of and funds for CLDF. I've only gone and been accepted!!!!!!!!
CLDF have been such a massive support to us, and Lily in particular, over the past year as we all navigate our way through our new and frightening world. The care, patience and reassurance that they continue to provide us has been huge. We will be forever indebted to them.
In December 2019, our beloved daughter, Lily, then aged 9, was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis, a Chronic Liver Disease. This is an horrendous, debilitating and life-changing disease.
In March 2021, Lily's condition began to deteriorate significantly and since then, she has endured 32 hospital admissions ( 5 during 2022 already), 7 operations and is currently awaiting a liver transplant. Daily, she takes a cocktail of medication and receives a feed overnight via her ng tube. She has a bile drain attached and is visibly jaundiced. Some days are very dark for her.
Despite all of this, Lily is remarkable, resilient, positive and very funny. She is now 12 and has developed an uncanny ability to perform some amazing eye rolls, dismissive hair flicks, deep sighs and thousand yard death stares! She is utterly horrified at my running ability and deeply embarrassed at my lumbering around clocking up the miles!
Lily is truly my inspiration to run 26.2 miles and it is my honour to do so in her name
My lovely chum Delyth Powys, has also been accepted and will be running alongside me on The Day! She will also be raising funds for CLDF.
Please support me in my madcap adventure if you can.
Thank you!
*********UPDATE******
On 21.06.22, Lily received her liver transplant at Birmingham Children's Hospital. All went extremely well and she is now recuperating at home. Lily has a long road ahead but we will be forever indebted to her donor and to the wonderful staff at BCH.
I continued training whilst we were up in Birmingham and this joyous and wonderful news had certainly given me further inspiration.
I will be proud to run in the London Marathon on 02.10.22 for the love of my Lily and in respect for her donor and their family.
Thank you so very much for your wonderful support.
