Story
I have been inspired to virtually cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats after the death of a dear friend, John, from blood cancer. Also in memory of my brother, Mark, who died 26 years ago and to celebrate what would have been his 50th birthday year. There have been so many medical advances since then but sadly there is still a long way to go.
Mark had a dry sense of humour, loved sport, and was always up for an adventure. He was always up to something but he also was a great big brother and I could rely on him for anything. I had only known John a few years but he also had a insatiable appetite for adventure and a twinkle in his eye.
This challenge is motivated by John's love of cycling and he cycled this route twice. My inability to ride a bike has not deterred me and I will be riding the 874 miles on "Bertha the Beast" my off road mountain trike within 3 months in between work commitments.
What/who are Blood Cancer UK?
We're a community dedicated to beating blood cancer. We do this by funding research and supporting those affected. Since 1960, we've invested over £500 million in blood cancer research, transforming treatments and saving lives. Right now, our community is funding 360 researchers and staff across the UK who are searching for the next breakthrough. The day we will beat blood cancer is now in sight and the researchers are determined to finish the job.
