Story
On Sunday September 11th we'll be walking 18 miles to complete the Chilterns Three Peaks Challenge. I'm raising money with my good friend Jacs for the wonderful team at Rennie Grove who provided hospice at home care for my Dad. Sadly, after being diagnosed with relapsed lymphoma in 2018, he developed a brain tumour which left only palliative care treatment options available.
After a long hospital stay, all Dad wanted to do was get home - something that wouldn't have been possible without the support of Rennie Grove and their hospice at home service. The Rennie Grove team offered both practical nursing care and emotional support, giving us the confidence that we were doing the right thing for Dad, helping us to manage his symptoms and keep him comfortable and pain-free.
One of the most valuable services Rennie Grove provide is a 24/7 hospice at home specialist helpline. If we were worried about anything, no matter how small it might seem, we were encouraged to call the team at any time of the day or night. The reassurance this service provided was invaluable, giving us instant access to advice, often followed by a Rennie Grove nurse arriving within the hour to check on things and provide additional support as required.
Rennie Grove Hospice Care gave my Dad the chance to spend his last few weeks at home surrounded by friends and family, something that we will always be grateful for. I'm raising money for the Rennie Grove team so that they can continue to support patients and families to make every moment together matter.
Rennie Grove Hospice Care is a registered charity offering services to support local patients diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. By offering a 24-hour responsive hospice at home service in combination with other services such as day hospice and family support, they allow our patients to choose how and where they want to be cared for towards the end of life.
