Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

ME (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis)

ME or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a neurological condition that effects multiple systems of the body. As the name suggests, a major symptom is chronic fatigue, exhaustion, and general malaise. This doesn't mean simply 'feeling tired', rather a prolonged lack of energy (both mental and physical) that is not made better by sleep or rest. Combined with other symptoms - chronic pain, migraines, memory difficulties, and flu-like symptoms - life with this condition can be very difficult; with many every-day activities such as taking a shower or preparing a meal becoming challenging and, in severe cases, impossible.

The cause of ME/CFS is still unknown and there is no definitive cure.

Throughout the average week, most of us will reach for a caffeinated beverage in some form in order to give ourselves a boost at work or as a social pastime when meeting up with friends. For people with ME, caffeine can be detrimental - causing symptoms to flare up; not your typical post-hit 'crash'. In order to raise awareness of this chronic condition, I am giving up caffeine for one week starting Monday 11th May 2020.

I've set a target of £50 which I hope you will help me reach! All proceeds will go to the ME Association - a medical charity which helps to support those who suffer from ME/CFS by funding research into the causes, effects, and potential cures for the illness.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

The ME Association campaigns hard to get ME recognised as a severe neurological illness. Our helpline provides essential information and support to adults and children who have ME/CFS, and to their families and carers. We also fund biomedical research into the physical nature and causes of ME/CFS.
