Story
There are two lads who could hoe
Who didn’t want their talents to go
Not used in Swiss life
Or with the gap yah strife
They decided to run up a volcano
Last year we ran a marathon in Malawi with Impact Marathon.
The experience was so good that we have decided to take their tougher, more brutal challenge of participating in their Guatemala
This run will be particularly gruelling as we are climbing up an active volcano- twice. It will be a fun 2000m of elevation in total.
Running across lava fields at 2400m will be a remarkable experience
In the week preceding our race we will be helping two organisations that are changing the future of Guatemala by engaging the youth of the nation, focussing on leadership to generate longer term systematic change.
We will be working with SERES and Caras Alegres
Any donation would help these charities would be much appreciated and help out immensely
SERES works with young communities to help mentor them into leaders that will hopefully one day implement the systematic change that this country requires. They work across indigenous groups and across genders to help all those children/young adults that have a desire to be the change they want to see in the world
The Caras Alegres team work with a small community neighbouring a prison. The community has chosen to live here to be close to their family who are incarcerated within the prison walls. Once the children of this community finish school there is no one to look after them, feed them, help them with homework. Hence Caras Alegres provides a powerful support network to ensure these kids stay off the street and develop important life skills whilst receiving nutritious food. In this way they hope to keep the children away from the pull of the prevalent gang culture in Guatemala.
The Impact Marathon Foundation was borne of a dream that we could change the world by unleashing the power of running. We work specifically with the crazy people who truly believe they can change the world, bit changing their own communities. We ask them to dream, we ask them 'what do you need from our Foundation that other grantmakers don't offer you'. We seek to empower, and to serve our beneficiary organisations and work with small teams where we can tangibly see the impact we, as individuals, can have in the world.
