Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
I'm raising money for the Methodist Relief & Development Fund by walking Hadrian's Wall path - 87 miles from the Atlantic to the North Sea .
The Methodist Relief & Development Fund brings help where it's most needed across the world. It works through local agencies - to respond quickly in time of crisis but also to help communities long-term to create a better future for themselves and their children.
I completed the walk on 27 August - in 8 days instead of the 9 I'd originally planned for. Most of it I walked on my own, enjoying the peace and the grandeur of the scenery, from the River Eden's tidal basin up to the crags and down again through farmland and alongside the Tyne as it grew in width and power. My cousin Diana and her grand-daughter joined me to walk me in to Birdoswald, as the Wall became really impressive, and for the last 3 days I was accompanied by friends including 6-year-old Phoebe-Alice, who had taken a cottage in Corbridge especially to join in the walk.
Thanks to the generosity of people like you, I've raised nearly £1,300 for MRDF, including gift aid and another £1,300 for the kitchen development project at St. Andrew's Methodist Church in Slough, where I am the minister. I wouldn't have undertaken the walk if it hadn't been for the spur of raising the sponsorship. So thank you too for your part in bringing me to such a wonderful place for such a wonderful 9 days.
In this picture, taken on the last visible section of wall at Wallsend, I'm "modelling" one of 5 visors made especially for the walk by a designer-friend, James McCord, to be auctioned to raise funds for my two charities. You can see all five on St. Andrew's website: www.methodist-slough-standrews.org.uk. You can make bids for them there or by emailing me on hmf@fish.co.uk until Sunday 4 October.
This web-page stays open to 19 October, should you wish either to make a donation to Methodist Relief & Development Fund through it. It's not too late to sponsor me! If you've not done so already, please do. Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Methodist Relief and Development Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Alternatively, you can send a cheque to St. Andrew's Methodist Church, Merton Road, Slough, SL1 1QW, If you can gift-aid your gift, state that that is your wish and make sure you include your address.
Thank you again
