Story
I am really excited that in June 2013 I am going to travel to South India for 3 months to volunteer as a Team Leader for Raleigh International. Working alongside a local Team Leader, I will be leading a team of 12 volunteers from both the UK and India to find out what the local community would like help with and contributing to development projects that tackle issues around education, health, livelihoods, strengthening civil society and the environment.
Activities will cover infrastructure building, training and workshop delivery. We will be working with local NGO partners, trades people and community groups to ensure projects are sustainable and the impact will be felt for a long time after our projects are completed.
Raleigh International is currently working on projects in both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, so I will be living and working amongst the communities in one of these states this summer - building toilets or making manure!
The work that we do overseas will help to contribute towards accelerating delivery of the Millenium Development Goals.
I am really excited about getting to be a part of this amazing experience, for both myself, the Indian communities we'll be helping and also the young people we're taking with us. I have never been to India before or done a project of this size. I know it will be hard work, but am looking forward to the challenge!
As part of my commitment to the project, I am fundraising some of the money which enables young people (both in the UK and overseas) to be a part of projects like this, volunteering in the developing world and fighting poverty.
Any money you donate would be much appreciated! Thank you!
