Story
Why walk, run and climb 26 miles? In simple terms, because I believe I can and that is down to the awe inspiring treatment offered for brain injuries in this day and age. To be able to complete any physical challenge feels miraculous considering 12 weeks ago I suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage from a large aneursym - a brain haemorrhage. The fact that I am recovering so well and looking to the future so brightly is through the expertise, knowledge and support for conditions such as my own, through charities such as Brain Research UK.
Neurological conditions include everything from sudden onset conditions such as stroke or traumatic brain injury; to progressive, degenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease; and intermittent conditions such as epilepsy and headache and migraine disorders.
These conditions vary enormously in terms of the impact that they have on the lives of those affected. Some are rapidly fatal. Some cause a gradual decline in function. Some are chronic and debilitating. Together they cause around 140,000 deaths every year in the UK – one fifth of all deaths – and they are a leading cause of disability. Money raised will be split between Brain Research UK, Brain Tumour Research and Epilepsy Research UK. Sadly, you may know someone affected and this is what makes these charities so important.
Please help me raise money for this vital research and support. I have asked some of my nearest and dearest to join me on this challenge. We will walk 10 miles, run 15 miles and 'climb' 1.2 miles, which involves a lot of steps (2500)! We aim to complete this on Sunday 1st May. I will be six months post haemorrhage and raring to go! Training has already begun.
I am also overwhelmed at how my family have agreed to do this with me, with just a simple, 'Yep, I'm in!' David Preece, Robert Hough, Joanne Bottrell, Mark Rushton, Vickie Hough-Jones and Simon Jones. So it could even resemble fun 🙃 Plus I have already had £100 from my Dad, £50 from my mum and a generous anonymous donation of £30 added 'offline'.
