Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My sister suffers very badly from this terrible chronic disease.

IT IS A VERY UNDERFUNDED RESEARCH AREA!

LACK OF FUNDS = NO PROGRESS TO CURE

LACK OF FUNDS = NO MONEY TO HELP AND SUPPORT THOSE IN NEED

And I want to do what I can with the painless time that I have to make a difference by raising awareness and money for ENDOMETRIOSIS UK

MONEY = MORE RESEARCH = HOPE FOR TREATMENT + CURE???

(Cure is a long way away but with more research, it could be closer)

So I have decided to run a marathon (because I cannot make the official ENDO UK event - Brighton Marathon)

What is Endometriosis? -

  • A chronic and debilitating disease
  • Where the cells similar to the lining of the uterus (womb lining) grows elsewhere in the body (can literally be anywhere, lungs, heart, bowls)
  • These cells bleed like a period (build up and break down) like the uterus does
  • Severe PAIN

Why is this a problem?

  • These cells that bleed - that blood has nowhere else to go - severe pain, inflammation and scare tissue forms
  • It takes average 8 years to get diagnosed
  • There is no cure and treatments don't really work for many (some respond better than others)
  • 1/10 women have it

Endometriosis can have a significant impact on a person's life in a number of ways, including:

  • Chronic pain
  • Fatigue/lack of energy
  • Depression/isolation
  • Problems with a couple’s sex life/relationships
  • An inability to conceive
  • Difficulty in fulfilling work and social commitments

It’s important to remember that:

  • Endometriosis is not an infection
  • Endometriosis is not contagious
  • Endometriosis is not cancer
