Story
Hi i'm Hayley I am married to Carl and mum to Leah, Emma and Alex.
I decided that if I am going to do a parachute jump I should do it for charity, that way I can't back out at the last minute! The charity I have chosen is the Sheffield Royal Society For The Blind (SRSB).
Why? because they are helping me to come to terms with my eye condition Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP).
RP is an inherited condition of the retina, (structure of the eye) that leads to a gradual deterioration of vision. Vision changes vary from each person but include; difficulty seeing in dim light/dark and loss of side or peripheral vision. Some people may become blind some retain some vision. Most people with RP eventually have a very restricted visual field leaving only a narrow tunnel of vision.
I was diagnosed with RP at the age of 22years (15 years ago) and have noticed my vision really deteriorating over the last 3 to 4 years. I am starting to struggle with vision in daylight as well as night, this presents in how clumsy I am and not being able to see objects and people to the sides. My vision is like a tunnel looking through a spot with the edges all fuzzy!
You can imagine the effect this has physically and emotionally being told that you are loosing your eyesight. I want to stay positive about my RP and the SRSB will help me to do that and maintain my independance. The impact that SRSB has is life saving for me and many others like me, not just those with RP but other eye conditions too.
Please help me to raise money for SRSB and encourage me to
MAKE THAT JUMP!!
