Story
In September 2019 Lesley’s nephew, Cameron at the age of 5, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Three days later they discovered he had Nephrotic Syndrome and Congenital Heart Defects and they were rushed down to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. Doctors couldn’t believe that lightning had struck three times: their lives had changed forever. Cameron required open heart surgery to correct a large Atrial Septal Defect but due to covid and his other health conditions they had to wait. At the end of May this year, he finally had his surgery. Six weeks later and he is back competing in tennis competitions and playing football. He is an inspiration for us all
While in Glasgow Lesley’s sister was told about the Zak Scott Braveheart Foundation. This is a charity set up in the memory of Zak Scott – a child who sadly passed away, aged 14 as a result of complications during heart surgery. This foundation sees children in Scotland who undergo heart surgery receiving a post-operative gift from this charity to help support their recovery. As a family they were all touched by this amazing story and the family’s desire to keep Zak’s memory alive. All monies raised will go directly to this charity to support the amazing work they are doing to give strength, hope and support to other families affected by heart disorders.
