Story

Thank you for taking time to read this. We have been supporting homeless and mental health charities for sometime and understand there is always a reason why someone sleeps rough in the UK and it usually relates to trauma, abuse and addiction. Therefore Tom and I are going to be spending a night sleeping homeless in Bristol. This actually means finding a doorway to spend a night, working out where we can use a toilet and hopefully speaking to some homeless people and sharing their stories (with permission of course) with our supporters. I am feeling nervous about this challenge but these charities need our support more than ever.

Homeless charities work so hard to provide homeless people with night shelter provision,  food, basic items and ongoing support to help them more into permanent accommodation.  Caring in Bristol rely on charitable donations to support homeless people in Bristol and we want to take on this challenge to raise money and awareness of the fantastic work they do. Can you help?  Even if it is just £1 please sponsor me and together we can make a difference.

At the end of 2019 it was estimated that 320,000 people were homeless (according to Shelter)! It’s really concerning that Covid-19 is increasing homelessness and that the economic crisis will push more people into needing help in this area too.

Date of sleep out (DELAYED FROM 2020 DUE TO COVID): 7 JUNE 2022  - our chosen charity: Caring in Bristol

What they do:  Provide shelter with beds and other easy access spaces, a night support team, food delivery, breakfast for homeless with some cafes, give out a handbook about services and support homeless people over Christmas, try to prevent homelessness.

EVERYONE DESERVES A PLACE THEY CAN CALL HOME

More about the charity: Caring in Bristol work in imaginative and creative ways with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, with the public and community partners to bring about lasting change in Bristol and beyond. Caring in Bristol are striving to create a society where everyone has a home, has hope and is part of their community. We don't believe that homelessness is a simple issue with a simple solution. Thats why we work across a number of projects helping people move away from the streets and preventing people becoming homeless in the first place.
