Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am taking on my biggest challenge yet and running the 2019 London Marathon for the charity Addaction (my first ever marathon!). Addaction support people with drug and/or alcohol problems, as well as mental health difficulties, by empowering and supporting people to take back control.
Addaction is a charity that is close to my heart both personally and professionally. Having family and friends who have found themselves addicted to alcohol and/or drugs, I have witnessed the impact it has on not only them, but also those who care about them most in the world.
I became a mental health nurse as my goal has always been to help others, particularly those who are vulnerable in society and in need of support. I later decided to specialise and became a Dual Diagnosis Nurse, helping those with severe and enduring mental illness, with drug and/or alcohol problems in the community. From my experience, anyone from any walk of life may start using drugs or alcohol for any number of reasons. Unfortunately, when gripped by addiction, individuals can find themselves feeling lonely, isolated, hopeless, helpless and defeated, not knowing who to turn to for support. Having loved ones, friends and patients who have used charity services such as Addaction, I’ve witnessed the amazing work they do, supporting people, caring and motivating individuals to make positive changes to their lives.
I think Addaction is a service that should have regular support and recognition for its hard work, as in my eyes, it is imperative to our society. They aim to provide individualised treatment, as well as provide a host of services including nurse led clinics, family intervention projects, blood born virus testing, recovery focused prescribing and bespoke services for veterans (to name a few). Addaction have over 120 services in the UK and help over 130,000 adults, young people, families and communities change for the better each year.

Thanks for taking the time to read my story, I am hoping to raise £1500 for this amazing charity. All donations are hugely appreciated!!
