Story
Last year opened my eyes to the impact that even a small stroke can have on a person and how undetectable they can be.
Being close to someone that has had a stroke, watching them become a different person, the physical and mental impact it has had has made me so grateful for the help and advice offered by charities and organisations that help both the patient and their families.
A stroke impacts every single part of life, not being as able to do everyday tasks or lacking in confidence. Having to re-learn basic skills or the uncertainty of whether these changes will ever get better is emotionally exhausting on the person affected and everyone around them. Recovery is tough, the brain has to re-learn and develop new pathways which takes time.
After 3-4 months of little support and information we found The Stroke Association. The first email from them was the single most helpful and re-assuring communication we had received from anyone. The waiting lists on the NHS are long and navigating the system is hard. The Stroke association co-ordinator was pro-active, compassionate and knowledgeable.
We are at the start of a long journey and I want to raise a small amount for The Stroke Association to help other families in the same or worse situation. To further support the long term rehabilitation of those that have had a stroke. It can happen to anyone, at anytime.
