Story
I am running the London marathon for my daughter Florrie who was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocystosis in 2020 at 15 months old after becoming very poorly over several months.
After a lumbar puncture, skull biopsy and various scans Florrie was finally diagnosed and took part in a clinical trial (as her disease is very rare) she then completed a year of chemotherapy treatment at Addenbrookes hospital in Cambridge.
Without the research and life saving treatment she may not be with us today, therefore I am forever grateful for charities such a Childrens Cancer UK and all they do in research and fund raising. I will be running this marathon for her and all of the children that are fighting cancer, and are truly such warriors. Florrie has finished her treatment and is doing very well, but I am forever aware that too many children are still on their journey and struggling everyday. This is my way of giving back and supporting those that supported us.
At Children with Cancer UK, we actively raise and invest money for vital specialist research to save the lives of every child with cancer and keep their family together. Through our investment in research, we are taking forward our understanding of childhood cancer, to give new insights into ways of treating young patients with even the most difficult forms of cancer. We are working to drive up the survival rate still further by developing more effective curative therapies with fewer toxic side effects.
