Story
As most of you know in 2018 I was diagnosed with M.E also known as chronic fatigue, I stopped competitive dancing which I had done for around 10 years prior, I struggled to brush my hair, and taking a shower was like climbing a mountain that wiped me out for days after. After being referred to specialists I was started on an activity management program. The aim was to start from the ground and building up small amounts of activity each day. Sometimes it can feel like I take 2 steps forwards and 4 steps back but that’s ok, I still have good days and bad days and I am still not able to do everything I once did...
In October 2019 a little four-legged friend entered and changed my life: George the mischievous, sock-eating cockapoo. Not only has he helped me to build my physical activity but he has also helped me enormously with my mental health. I got into a real rut, looking back I don’t really remember a lot about that time in my life, most people wouldn’t know that most nights I would break down so tired and exhausted not knowing what to do with myself next. I am super proud of where I have got to: I have now finished attending sixth form completing an AS Level in Maths and two A-Levels in Chemistry and Product Design; I have such amazing family & friends around me who are constantly looking out for me!
Since this all started I knew when I was well enough I wanted to do a ‘big’ challenge (or at least something big to me) and I had to find one that involved George too!
I have come a long way since signing up to do Woof Mudder in April 2020 but after being cancelled multiple times due to Covid restrictions we are now finally taking on the challenge on the 26th of September 2021. Woof Mudder is a 5KM obstacle likely to involve lots of mud & fun. It might knock me out of energy for a while but it will be so worth it if it raises just a little for St Lukes who is a charity close to mine & my family's hearts!! It costs over £9400 A DAY that’s £65,800 A WEEK to run.
It would mean the world to me if I could raise just a little to go towards their funding, so thank you, Hayley xx
Since 1988, St Lukes has been providing palliative care to local people, supporting them in ways that go beyond the scope and funding of the NHS. Today, donations are as important as ever and around 85% of our care is made possible thanks to your support.
