Story
A cancer diagnosis can affect people in many different ways, emotionally, physically, socially and financially. Whilst conventional medicine is advancing all the time with new treatment options, often the emotional and physical well-being of those affected by cancer can be under provided for. Having worked in oncology for 5 years, I have seen first-hand how the services and support available through Penny Brohn can really positively impact anyone with a cancer diagnosis.
At Penny Brohn UK support is available to anyone affected by cancer. Our holistic approach to helping people live well with cancer - The Bristol Whole Life Approach - gives anyone affected by cancer the practical, emotional and social support they need to improve their quality of life and to manage the fear and uncertainty that a cancer diagnosis may bring. With your support we can provide more life changing support to people who need our help the most.
I started running as a way of managing my physical and mental health and well-being 2 years ago after a particularly challenging year (I think we can all safely say that 2020 was a year we'd like to forget!). I'm not a natural runner by any means and started by following the Couch to 5k programme, followed by 5k to 10k and then completed my first half marathon in September 2021 in Windsor raising funds for another charity close to my heart, The Eve Appeal. What better way to push and challenge myself even further this year than to take on running my first marathon, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate and raise awareness of Penny Brohn UK and raise much needed funds for people affected by cancer.
