Story
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I'd be so grateful for your support.
I have decided to do a walk from the centre of Sandwick (dad's grave at the Sanick grave yard) to Victoria Pier in Lerwick (14 miles) in aid of the BHF after my Dad and my Nan both passed away after having heart attacks.
The story behind it,
Dads - My dad passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly on 4th July 2020 aged 63 just yards from my house of a mass heart attack. He was found slumped over his van wheel outside Sound service station less then 2 minutes after his delivery. At 8.26am that morning I had a knock on the door and it was 2 of the folk who found him to tell me what had happened. I rushed to the hospital and by 9am I was told he was pronounced dead. I then had to break the news to my mum who hadn't gotten there yet as she was getting a lift up with a friend. My life changed forever that day.
My dad's brother also passed away of a sudden heart attack years previous at only 49.
Mums side of the family - My Nan passed away of a heart attack on 29th Jan 2021 aged 89 after a spell in hospital with pneumonia and covid which she contracted while in hospital.
Unfortunately heart problems run in my mums side of the family. Myself, Mum, my late Nan, my Aunty and Uncle all have Marfan Syndrome which can affect the heart, both my Aunt and Uncle have had heart operations in the past.
My Uncle was recently diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and is now in residential care.
The reason I'm doing the walk from Sandwick to lerwick is because this is a walk I did with my dad and Nigel for Myeloma UK as that is the cancer my Aunt has. Also my 11 year old daughter wants to try it with me 😊 (if she gets to tired she will be picked up and taken home, I will be completing the whole walk) We will be starting at 10am.
The reason I'm doing it on the last Saturday in May is because my dad was well known for his 24 hour relays for CRUK relay for life shetland which is held bi-annually on the last sat in May. He would walk from Sumburgh to lerwick then walk around the track for 12 hours 😁.
Sorry for the really long winded story but there's a lot of story to tell.
If you can spare a few quid to support me and Amanda in our walk for BHF please do so. I also have donation forms if you wish to donate that way.
If you see us on 29th May give us a beep and a wave. Come rain or shine we will be walking.
Thanks, it means the world to me.
