The Horse Trust is facing an additional bill of £23,575 for hay and haylage this year - can you help?
The Horse Trust runs The Home of Rest for Horses in Speen, Buckinghamshire, which provides lifetime sanctuary for around 100 retired working horses, ponies and donkeys from many different backgrounds. We regularly take in horses and ponies that have been rescued by the RSPCA and urgently need a new home and special care to restore them to health.
Last year, we were able to produce the majority of hay and haylage we needed to feed animals over the winter from our land. But because of the dry weather conditions this year, we have only been able to produce around a third as much hay and haylage.
As farmers are in a similar situation, the cost of hay and haylage has risen dramatically. If the winter is as severe as last year, we will need to buy around 600 bales of hay and haylage to feed the animals at the sanctuary, which will cost us an additional £23,575.
Please can you help by donating to help us feed the horses, ponies and donkeys at the sanctuary.
Donations of hay can also be made in person at the sanctuary. The Home of Rest for Horses is open to the public every day of the week between 2 and 4pm. Please contact 01494 488 464 or info@horsetrust.org.uk to arrange to make a donation outside these hours.
