This year, Harris Academy Tottenham has chosen Parkinson's UK as its designated charitable cause.
Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means it causes problems with brain function, affecting mobility and much more, getting worse over time . There is currently no cure, however Parkinson's UK are constantly working towards finding one, as well as offering help, treatment and support for those living with Parkinson's.
This is a cause that personally affects one of our members of staff at the Academy. Faculty Lead Andy Johnson recently found out that his mum has been diagnosed with Parkinson's, so in order to support Andy's mum, as well as many others who are living with Parkinson's, the Academy decided to lend it's support!
Andy, along with Emily Smith, Sait Kacar, Melvin Hall and Richard Upton have all decided to run the Portsmouth Marathon on Sunday 17th December to kick start the fundraising. This will be 26.2 miles in the freezing cold across all terrains, including a stretch of the race being run on the beach! This is just the start of a number of fundraising events and activities that will be taking place over the coming year.
Anything you can donate will be hugely appreciated, and will mean an awful lot to us, to Andy and his mum, and to all those who will benefit from the great work Parkinson's UK do everyday.
