Story
Salam alaikum (peace be upon you) everyone,
I am, once again, climbing Mount Snowdon for
charity! Last year, we (a group of 60 from the University of Birmingham Islamic Society) managed to raise over £15,000 to go towards building orphans facilities for refugees at the Zaatari refugee camp.
This year, as part of our Charity Week 2016, we are doing it for a water sanitation project in Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s water crisis affects both rural and urban areas, and is a matter of both water scarcity and water quality.
The WHO estimates suggesting only 40% percent of the population have access to proper sanitation facilitates. Not only is the potable water limited but the groundwater, which is used by nearly 90% of the population, is also contaminated with arsenic. According to the WHO, the levels of arsenic have contributed to the largest mass poisoning in history, affecting an estimated 30-35 million people in Bangladesh. Exposure to arsenic can cause cancer and severely damage many integral systems in the human body. Arsenic has been shown to be the cause of death for 1 out of every 5 people in Bangladesh. Diarrheal diseases constitute a major health problem in Bangladesh, killing over 100,000 children each year.
The regions we are focusing on are the villages Kaliganj Upazila,
Satkhira and it will, inshaAllah make real difference to 17,660 lives. If you want more information about the cause, do not hestitate to ask me!
Any donation can go a long away - every little helps. And remember that this is 'Sadaqah Jariyah', meaning this is a charity that brings ongoing benefit to others and to you. When you donate to a Sadaqah Jariyah project, you reap the reward in this life and the next.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end, except for three: ongoing charity (Sadaqah Jariyah), knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for him.” (Muslim, Tirmidhi).
Thanks again for taking the time to read this and I hope you will support me reach my target and do my bit to this great cause!
May Allah reward you all,
Hassan Ibrahim
