Story
Hi my name's Harvey and I have signed up to the Everest base camp trek with bath university and Choose a Challenge to raise money for MRF. To further raise money for this cause am walking the Bob Graham Round. This is a notorious walk in the Lake District, a challenge I have had my eye on for a few years, and there's no better way to challenge myself whilst raising money for a brilliant cause.
Meningitis still affects people all across the world affecting five million people each year with a very high mortality rate among children under the age of five, more than: measles, malaria, tetanus and AIDS combined. It's a deadly virus that still isn't full understood and roughly 1/10 people affected currently die which can happen within 24 hours. MRF's plan is, with our support, to produce a vaccine which can prevent this disease and treatment which can improve the lives of so many people around the world. For more details on symptoms, please have a look at the information on this page below.
One of the challenges I'm doing to support this cause is the Bob Graham Round, a 106km walk in the Lake District, which consists of conquering 42 peaks, including the likes of Helvellyn and Scafell Pike, with a combined elevation of almost 27,000ft, nearly the height of Everest. I'm planning to do this over three days, unsupported which means I will have to carry all my own food and camping equipment for the trek.
As well as the Bob Graham Round, z group of 5 and myself will be trekking to base camp Everest over a 15 day hike in the Himalayas to support the cause to raise money for the charity. The majority of the money raised will go to MRF with a portion to fund the cost of the challenge to basecamp, along with money i have also put down to do it.
I understand not everyone will be able to donate, but if you can I know that any money raised will go a long way to help us tackle this disease, and support so many people affected, and hopefully defeat this virus for good.
Thank you so much for your support,
Harvey.
