We fund long-term, sustainable research to find a cure for brain tumours

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page to help raise money for such a fantastic charity, Brain Tumour Research.

Up until 2020 I had been incredibly lucky to not have been directly effected by the dreaded word... cancer.

In January 2020 our families lives got turned upside down as my Father in law got diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumour which is an aggressive type of cancer and devastatingly, incurable.

From being diagnosed to now, Tim has undergone a seven hour operation, which was performed whilst he was awake, he underwent 6 weeks of radiotherapy and 14 months of chemotherapy. Tim has been through more pain that I could ever imagine, all with his usual fun and laughter, and I feel the least I can do is put one foot in front of the other for 26 miles!

Updated: Having completed Windsor Half Marathon in September in 1hr 38mins I challenged myself to run Farnborough Half Marathon in January in under 1hr 30mins. I smashed this goal and ran it in 1hr 26mins.

Now, I have also signed up for Leeds Full Marathon, 3 weeks after the London Marathon. People suffering with Brain Tumours (and any cancer) don't have the option for the pain they go through. This is self inflicted and well worth it to raise much needed funds!

Update: As some may know, Tim's tumour unfortunately returned again in the summer of 2023. Being the hero he is, he was able to have a second operation in order to remove the returned tumour. It was a similar operation, however much tougher for Tim. He was incredible again and it went as well as we could have gone. Tim has already undergone further radiotherapy, alongside chemotherapy over a number of weeks.

Tim is just about to begin another year of chemotherapy in the hope to keep the tumour at bay and stop it returning for as long as possible. This is another reminder of just why the Brain Tumour Research charity is so important. Due to the work they do Tim was able to undergo another operation and keep him with his friends and family.

This is another reminder of why I am doing this event, for Tim, and people going through what Tim is going through.

The work that Brain Tumour Research do is vital to hopefully one day end this awful disease which effects so many people, at different ages and without discriminating.

My aim is to raise at least £13,250 for this amazing charity and hopefully one day, we can find a cure for this horrendous disease.
