After the fantastic success of the #SaveSkylark campaign, I am asking for support to fundraise for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution as a present for Harry Styles for his 23rd Birthday.

The RNLI are an incredibly fitting charity for this year's birthday charity drive. Not only were 19 of their boats involved in the Dunkirk evacuation in 1940, saving 1,000's of men just like Harry's Dunkirk character, but they continue to save lives at sea today. 

The RNLI is 95% funded by donations, all of which go towards training and equipping volunteers, educating children about safety in water and rescuing thousands of people every year. 

Figures show that the RNLI saved 442 lives, rescued 9,763 people and educated an estimated 593,000 children about water safety in 2015 alone.

For every £1,419 raised, the RNLI can fully equip a life saving volunteer with full protective gear, as well as providing them with a pager which alerts them to attend emergencies as soon as they occur. Raising at least £10,000 would provide the charity with enough money to equip a whole new crew.

Funds are also spent on maintenance of the lifeboats and their buildings, providing the life saving training that every volunteer requires and funding the programmes that ensure children are educated about keeping themselves safe in water. The RNLI are also presently appealing for funds to build a new lifeboat station in Penlee, Cornwall, England as the existing station building is no longer suitable for the RNLI's operational requirements.

The work of the RNLI doesn't stop in the UK. They also provide essential flood rescue teams and work to help and train those in other countries such as Bangladesh. 

If we work together to raise funds for this excellent charity, we can and will make a huge difference and contribute to saving lives at sea, just like those brave civilians did on the little ships back in 1940.
