Story
As many of you know on the 7th of October 2021 at Darlington memorial our gorgeous little 6lb 9oz baby Esmè Daisy was born, as all babies after Emily’s c-section Esmè was giving a full check and we were told she was a healthy little baby which unfortunately turned out not to be the case. Several hours later due to covid I was asked to leave and Emily and Esmè were taken to the postnatal ward, after getting home with George our very excited big brother to be I was phoned by Emily to come back over to the hospital as Emily realised something was wrong. After many hours of the unknown a NECTAR ambulance (which is a specialist ambulance crew which provide expert care for critically ill children) came for Esmè and she was blue lighted to The Great North Children’s Hospital in the RVI Newcastle and we were made aware straight away that Esmè has a rare birth condition that affects roughly around 1 in 5000 babies and her treatment started straight away on our 14 hour old tiny baby. Start to finish from taking us up to the RVI to the first nurse, doctor, surgeon and everyone in between the staff were beyond amazing with our family and made us feel so safe in what we felt was the worst hours, days and weeks of our life. Ward 9 at the RVI didn’t just look after Esmè but looked after us as a very scared and over whelmed family, Esmè recently had life changing surgery which for us as a family was the most overwhelming and scary time of our life but once again The Great North Children’s Hospital went above and beyond to look after us all and give Esmè the most amazing loving treatment any family would want for a 11 week old baby who had just had a very long and very intense surgery.
We as a family can never ever thank The Great North Children’s Hospital enough for everything they have done for us but together we will try our very hardest to show them just how much we appreciate all the love and care we have received, as my first charity event to raise money for the amazing people who changed all our lives forever I am doing the coast 2 coast with a very good friend of mine. Our aim is to do this in 24 hours to make this challenge even harder, The majority of C2C trips are spread over 3 or 4 days. The iconic route travels 137 miles between the Irish Sea and the North Sea, from Cumbria to Tyneside, passing through the northern Lake District before climbing the Pennines and descending to the railway paths of County Durham.
Any donations to the amazing foundation would mean everything to me and my family, so please donate anything you possibly can so we can give back to the people who gave our gorgeous little girl the life changing surgery and care she needed to become the happy little baby she is.
Thank you so much
Harry, Emily and all our family x
